Skelberry Shetlands
Welcome to Skelberry Shetland Pony Stud. We are a small stud of around 20 mostly miniature Shetland ponies of various colours located on the Gloucestershire/Worcestershire border. Our aim is to breed quality stock with good conformation, bone and temperament, with an emphasis on quality not quantity. Our breeding is based mainly on Kerswell, Seva and Tawna bloodlines.
We bought our first shetlands in 1993 as companions for an old Welsh Mountain pony. They were a gelding named Kerswell Keepsake and a 5 month old colt foal named Allensmore Starmist (both ponies are still with us today). We kept Star entire and put him up for his stallion assessment, which he passed as a 2 year old.
As we then had a stallion but no mares, we were given Foxleys Bambino on loan by the Allensmore stud. We then bought our first mare, Woodspring Titania, and were also given the opportunity to purchase Bambi. The first two Skelberry foals were born in 1997 - Skelberry Freya and Skelberry Vanilla Fudge. From then the stud has slowly progressed to its present size.
The stud now stands four stallions:
Allensmore Starmist - 33.5” blue dun & white skewbald
Woodspring Quince - 32.25” chestnut
Starfire Firecracker - 33.5” chestnut & white skewbald
Skelberry Oliver - 32.5” chestnut dun & white skewbald
